Dancer Series #03

Black Model #02

This is the third of a series of sketches of one model. I did them a couple of weeks ago now. Needless to say, I had a lot of fun. I only had an hour or so to work and I just went as fast as I could. But, the secret to the session was the model. It is easy to forget that there is more to modeling than a willingness to bare it all in what is often a drafty room (if that’s what’s required) and an ability to hold a pose. Most artist models view themselves as professionals and as such, an integral part of the creative process. The poses that they strike, with or without the artist’s direction are creative in their own right and it never fails that when I give a model directions such as “move your hand like this” or (my favorite) “look as though you are getting ready to cross the street against a green light,” they often take it upon themselves to interpret what I am suggesting and make it better. That’s what separates the professionals from the rest. And, I owe them big time.
